WORKPLACE BULLYING

SPOT THE SIGNS.

Workplace Bullying is real & it happens all around us. Every one of us has either experienced or witnessed it in some shape or form. The trouble is, it does come in a lot of different shapes & forms, which is why sometimes it may be more difficult to spot. Remember, bullying isn't only physical aggression and name calling.

Constant Criticism

Constant Criticism is a major factor in demotivation and often one of the first signs of Workplace Bullying. Criticism can stem from jealousy and is often produced by somebody who just wants to bring you down to their level.

Having Malicious Rumours Spread

Rumours can ruin lives. Rumours are spread to ruin an individuals reputation, normally due to jealousy of the victim’s talent or abilities.

Refusing Reasonable Requests

Managers know they are in a position of power, and can very often use this position to deny reasonable requests. Favouritism more often than not is a leading factor, but it is important for equality and for everybody to be treated the same.

Removal of duties without reason

You wouldn’t demote somebody without good reason - or at least we’d hope. Sadly, it’s so often the case that an individual is making great progress, which is halted by a lack of trust from (typically) a senior manager.

Unwelcome Sexual Advances

Needless to say, this is wrong on so many levels. Your job is a place of work & professionalism, and any individual should not have to worry about any unwelcome sexual advances.

Unfounded Threats About Job Security

Job security can be a massive hold over an employee. For the majority of workers, their job is more than just a job. It is their livelihood, what keeps a roof over their heads & what feeds their family. Threatening that security is a misuse of power & bullying.

Overbearing supervision or monitoring

Overbearing supervision does not build confidence when it is absolutely not necessary. Trust is so important in any relationship, and employees, who are hired for the job, must be trusted in order to flourish.

Misusing a Position Of Power To Belittle

A manager is in a position of power for good, not bad. Sadly, it is often the case that certain managers let this small amount of power go to their head.

Blocking Promotion Or Progress

Sadly, there are particular people who hate to see others doing well, typically through jealousy. So often, an employee will be performing greatly but this is not recognised, or is recognised but nothing is acted upon. Progress and good work should be rewarded, always.

THESE ARE ALL SIGNS OF WORKPLACE BULLYING.
